Outgoing ‘GMA’ meteorologist Sam Champion celebrates his last day on ABC after 25 years with co-workers Josh Elliott and Robin Roberts in an emotional send-off Wednesday.

On his last day as the weatherman on "Good Morning America," Sam Champion did everything but call himself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.
Champion is leaving the top-rated morning show to launch a new morning show early next year at The Weather Channel.

Wednesday was his last day on "GMA," and it included a handoff of the "ceremonial galoshes" to his successor, Ginger Zee.
Since Zee was in Denver, reporting on the cold snap there, some camera trickery was involved. Champion made the "toss" from his seat in New York and a pair of galoshes jumped into Zee's hands in Denver.

With an arm like that, forget The Weather Channel. Champion could get six years and $150 million from the Yankees.
The "GMA" team had already acknowledged Champion's departure on Tuesday, and the glowing tributes continued Wednesday.

Colleague Josh Elliott also led Champion out to say goodbye to the crowds outside the "GMA" studio.
Champion worked the line, saying hello to a birthday gal and telling another woman he should just stay outside and warm up everyone's hands.

He also got a round of applause outside, and the result was that his last weather report ended with Champion quickly telling viewers to just look at the map.
The "GMA" team and Champion competed throughout the show to pay greater compliments to each other.
Champion called Zee "the very, very best," and she replied that she had been "honored and humbled" to work with him.
He prefaced the galoshes handoff with a knowing reference to "where we go" as meteorologists.
