Lenovo Moto has no plans for wearable market in 2017

Lenovo Moto has confirmed it will not launch a wearable device in time for the scheduled Android Wear 2 launch and has no current smartwatch plans.
Google is expected to launch Android Wear 2 early next year, but Lenovo doesn’t see the update as major enough to warrant a new smartwatch.

Speaking to The Verge, Shakil Barkat, head of global product development at Moto, said he doesn’t see major interest in smartwatches at this time, but left the possibility of future smartwatch launches should the technology and software improve.
“Wearables do not have broad enough appeal for us to continue to build on it year after year,” said Barkat. “We believe the wrist still has value and there will be a point where they provide value to consumers more than they do today.

A blow for Android Wear

It is a blow for Android Wear, which is already seeing a downturn in interest, as Apple starts to consolidate its position as leader of the smartwatch market. Moto was one of the first manufacturers to build an Android Wear smartwatch, the Moto 360, but sales haven’t been as high as Google, Lenovo, or Moto expected.
Lenovo, the owner of Moto, has been quietly restructuring the company in the past year, trimming some of the fat and updating the brand. The decision to back away from the smartwatch market may be a direct order from Moto’s Chinese owners.
Without Moto, Google is going to struggle to find innovative manufacturers that can make breakthroughs in the market. It has already lost Samsung, who decided to start using Tizen OS for most of its smartwatches instead of Android Wear.

New Galaxy Gear Ad Shows Technology Can Fix Your Love Life

Samsung isn't looking to take on Apple with its Galaxy Gear smartwatch; rather, it has its sights set on OKCupid and Match.com.
The clip follows the trials and tribulations of a technologically tragic love triangle: a "geared up" lethario named Jack, his snowboarding love interest and a bumbling third wheel with a nondescript black smartphone. The first guy tries to woo the woman with his Galaxy Gear, while his technologically inferior competitor spends most of his time creepily staring at them and dropping things.
After meeting on a ski lift and demanding her number, the two appear to wave goodbye. Except Romeo follows his snowy Juliet down the hill, recording her with his phone. This move seems to go more smoothly than most unauthorized tapings, which leads into a party scene in which Jack's Galaxy Gear continues to give him a distinct edge in his romantic pursuit.
Finally, the two enjoy a glass of wine with a view while the third wheel is left to chug the remains of his drink. "Today was perfect, Jack," the woman says. The moment appears so perfect that it compels Jack to break the fourth wall and flash his trusty smartwatch at the camera.
The message is clear: You don't need Tinder to get a date, unless the dating site is coming out with a smartwatch app soon.

Pebble Update Adds 'Do Not Disturb' Mode

Pebble Update Adds 'Do Not Disturb' ModePebble-watch-4

The Pebble smartwatch just got a nice update that offers a "do not disturb" mode and better support for notifications and alarms.
The update comes just a month after Pebble received a major overhaul for iOS 7 users, including full notification support.

The new update tweaks iOS performance, sending notifications more quickly from iOS to the Pebble. The update also improves how notifications work on the smartwatch. You can now easily choose if you want to receive all notifications on your smartwatch, just phone calls or turn notifications off.
This notification control plays well with the biggest feature, a new "do not disturb" mode that lets users set a period of time when notifications will be off. This is great for people who sleep wearing a watch and don't want to be roused by a vibration on their wrist. As someone who sleeps with my Pebble on a nightstand, the vibrations in the middle of the night can still be a nuisance, so this is a great new feature.
Pebble also improved its alarm app and now you can create multiple alarms, toggle an alarm to be on or off and edit existing alarms. There's also a new "snooze" alarm, for people who want to put off dealing with their alarm.
To update to the latest version of the Pebble firmware, just open the iOS or Android app and click the update button when prompted.
