New Galaxy Gear Ad Shows Technology Can Fix Your Love Life
Samsung isn't looking to take on Apple with its Galaxy Gear smartwatch; rather, it has its sights set on OKCupid and Match.com.
The clip follows the trials and tribulations of a technologically tragic love triangle: a "geared up" lethario named Jack, his snowboarding love interest and a bumbling third wheel with a nondescript black smartphone. The first guy tries to woo the woman with his Galaxy Gear, while his technologically inferior competitor spends most of his time creepily staring at them and dropping things.
After meeting on a ski lift and demanding her number, the two appear to wave goodbye. Except Romeo follows his snowy Juliet down the hill, recording her with his phone. This move seems to go more smoothly than most unauthorized tapings, which leads into a party scene in which Jack's Galaxy Gear continues to give him a distinct edge in his romantic pursuit.
Finally, the two enjoy a glass of wine with a view while the third wheel is left to chug the remains of his drink. "Today was perfect, Jack," the woman says. The moment appears so perfect that it compels Jack to break the fourth wall and flash his trusty smartwatch at the camera.
The message is clear: You don't need Tinder to get a date, unless the dating site is coming out with a smartwatch app soon.
