In less than 50 days, Harry Potter makes his first foray from page and screen to stage, inHarry Potter and the Cursed Child, the two-part play set to open in London. As the cast begins rehearsing everything from duels to diction, J.K. Rowling visited the theater to see how her magical story lives on.
A video taken during the April 18 rehearsal features the cast of children and adults rehearsing blocking and wand choreography.
"One of the things that I have valued most about the Potter fandom is that as a community they have really looked after each other," said Rowling. "People have each other's backs, it's a special thing."
The production trio are self-admittedly nervous about previews and a premiere, but optimistic about the learning process.
"What works here [in rehearsal] might not necessarily work on the stage in the same way, and might require quite big chances in order to make it function in a really powerful way," Thorne said.
"This will be such an incredible theatrical experience that I'd love us to be able to surprise people and move people, in the natural way that a story should surprise and move people," Rowling added.
